BELIEFS

THE BIBLE

We believe the Bible is the Word of God, the full and complete revelation of the plan and history of redemption. We believe in the verbal and plenary inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, known as the Bible, composed of sixty-six books and divided into two departments, Old and New Testaments. The Bible is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it commands, trusted in all that it promises, and revered in all that it reveals (2 Tim. 3:16).

TRINITY

There is one eternally existing God, infinitely great and good, who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.

FATHER

The Father is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is entirely good. He is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises.

SON

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became human for our salvation. He is the only Mediator between God and humanity (1 Tim. 2:5). He was born of the virgin Mary. In the midst of our broken world, He lived a perfect and sinless life, communicating God's truth and salvation. He actually suffered, was crucified, buried, raised to life again, and ascended to the right hand of God. He did all of this to reconcile us to God the Father, and to make atonement for our sin.

HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead who is active in today's world. The Holy Spirit indwells, seals, and regenerates the believer at the moment of salvation (Eph 1:13, Titus 3:5). He anoints the preaching of God's Word, convicts of sin, applies the benefits of Christ, and empowers believers with spiritual gifts. He is our Teacher, Comforter, and Guide, taking the things of Christ and revealing them to us. He glorifies Christ, guides us into all truth, and shows us things to come (Jn. 14:16, 17, 26; 15:26; 16:7-11, 13-15).

HUMANITY

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory (Gen. 1:26-27). The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creation.

THE FALL

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, the original goodness of creation was corrupted by sin.  This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and it fractured all of creation ever since that time (Psa. 51:5; Rom. 5:12-20).

SALVATION

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us to God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. By his death in our place, He revealed God’s love and upheld God’s justice, removing our guilt, overcoming the powers that held us captive, and reconciling us to God (Isa. 53:4-6; 2 Cor. 5:21; Col. 2:14-15). It is wholly by grace, not our own works, that we have been forgiven; it is wholly by Jesus’  blood, not by our own sweat and tears, that we have been cleansed. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as the free gift of eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.

SANCTIFICATION

Sanctification begins at salvation and continues throughout the life of a believer. Sanctification delivers from the power and dominion of sin. It is followed by lifelong growth in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 4:16; 2 Pet. 3:18).

HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM

We believe the baptism of the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance, is a subsequent experience available to all believers, providing power to witness for Christ (Lk. 11:13; 24:49; Acts 1:5, 8; 2:38, 39) and access to all the Holy Spirit's gifts. We believe in and encourage the use of all spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 12-14).

WATER BAPTISM AND EUCHARIST

These two ordinances are bound to the Word by the Spirit proclaiming the promise of the gospel, and becoming places where believers encounter Christ again. Water Baptism and Eucharist are tangible expressions. They vividly depict our dying, rising, and incorporation into Jesus’ body (“one bread … one body” – 1 Cor. 10:16-17). Water Baptism and Eucharist strengthen believers by visibly recalling, proclaiming, and sealing the gracious promise of forgiveness of sins and communion with God and one another through the peace-making blood of Christ (1 Cor. 11:26; Col. 1:20).

THE CHURCH

The Church is the visible body of Christ, the whole company of God's people through the ages, of which Christ is Lord and head. The truth that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, is the Church’s firm foundation (Matt. 16:16-18; 1 Cor. 3:11). The local church exists visibly everywhere two or three gather in his name to exalt Him and proclaim the gospel in word and works of love.

MARRIAGE AND BIBLICAL SEXUALITY

Marriage was  established by God to join a man and a woman together for life. Believers are instructed to only marry another believer. Marriage serves a variety of God-ordained purposes: companionship, reproduction, and relational intimacy. Marriage also functions as a picture for the relationship between Jesus Christ and the Church. (Gen. 2:18-25, Eph. 5:22-33, 1 Cor. 7:39-40, Rom. 7:1-3, Gen. 1:26-31, 1 Cor. 7:1-7). Although most individuals will get married, there is a special enabling for some to be single. Singleness (celibacy) provides greater freedom for service to the Lord and should be honored in the church (Matt. 19:10-12, 1 Cor. 7:8-9, 25-40). LAST THINGS

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth. He will judge the world. Those who persist in unbelief will experience everlasting punishment in Hell, where His life and light are no more. Those who believe will enjoy eternal joy and fellowship with their Lord in the new heaven and the new earth (Rev. 21:1-2). There they shall reign with Him (2 Tim. 2:12; Rev. 22:5) and see Him face to face (1 Cor. 13:12; Rev. 22:4), forever captivated in wonder, love, and praise.
